About Gara and Jonay Events

Gara and Jonay began as a small handmade jewellery business in 2020 during the pandemic. It is solely owned and operated by myself. I have been incredibly fortunate with the success of Gara and Jonay. It has allowed me to do some incredible things over the last five years, most recently operating full time and not returning to my day job following maternity leave.

During the five years operating Gara and Jonay on and off, I have attended various events in Scotland as a trader, some have been incredible and some not so good. One of the best markets I ever traded at was in the Britannia Panopticon in 2021. When returning to Gara and Jonay following maternity, I messaged the operator of that market to enquire about whether they were operating this year, but heard nothing back and looking at their social media they do not seem to be operating events any longer. So following a discussion with my partner, I messaged the Panopticon and queried about hosting a Halloween market myself.

This event was probably the most daunting thing I have ever done in my time running Gara and Jonay and I was extremely lucky to have help in the shape of my partner and my fabulous cousin. This event would never have been the success it was without the both of them.

While it was daunting, I loved every minute of it. While it wasn't perfect, I know what I want to improve on.

There are so many ideas I have for future events, that I decided to bite the bullet and start my own events company. It will be mainly focusing on markets within Glasgow area but I also will be running charity events and other ideas. The reason for a company on its' own is to keep Gara and Jonay as a retail business and not cause any confusion, but keep the events company within the Gara and Jonay brand.

I will be making announcements in March for the coming year.
